Young stars SARAH MICHELLE GELLAR and SEAN PATRICK FLANERY discuss their "appetite" for their new film 'Simply Irresistible,' a contemporary love story set against the backdrop of Manhattan's high-end culinary and retail worlds.
Entertainment Tonight : I was watching the movie and I got so hungry! Did you guys gain like 100 pounds doing this film? How much food did you consume?
Sean Patrick Flanery : We ate a lot! Before we even started, MARK TARLOV, the director, is a gourmet and a wine connoisseur, so we went to some of the best restaurants, and we had some of the best meals.
Sarah Michelle Gellar : Bear in mind, this was all research! This was for the movie, not for our own pleasure!
Sean : Sarah's very method!
ET : Is the movie more about the magic of love or the magic of food?
Sarah : It's the magic of love. I think it's the magic of love. Food is a part of that, but Amanda [her character] finds her ability to cook through her new found passion. I think that's where it comes from.
ET : But you know your way around the kitchen?
Sarah : Yeah!
ET : What's your favourite dish?
Sarah : I love to make big pots of soup from scratch -- all the ingredients -- and just have it all week long.
Sean : She can crack a can of Campbell's, and she can toast a mean Pop-Tart!
Sarah : I've never had a Pop-Tart! We've had this discussion. I've never had a Pop-Tart. He doesn't believe me!
ET : So, are there certain kinds of foods that have different effects on you?
Sarah : White chocolate raspberry truffle cheesecake with whipped cream!
ET : And what does it do to you?
Sarah : (raises her eyebrows)
ET : And you?
Sean : Anything chocolate just puts you in a zone, and maybe it has to do with having it after a meal. Your belly's full, you're really relaxed, you've had a glass of wine. Then you have chocolate and it sends you into that zone! I love food. I adore food. I adore sensory experiences. I mean, everything in my life has good smells, good music. I have to surround myself -- I adore music, I adore good smells, I adore feeling good, I adore food, everything!
ET : When you were doing research, did you ever put something in your mouth that came right back out because you didn't like?
Sarah : Not the restaurants that we ate in!
ET : Let's get into the politics of dating. We're getting close to the millennium. Do you feel there are different dating rules today?
Sarah : Well, back in the '60s when I started dating--
Sean : I don't think there are any rules at all! I mean, different people allow different things. They expect different things. There's no rules really. It's such an open game.
ET : They say don't call for 72 hours...
Sarah : All that stuff is just game playing. That's pure game playing, you know? Don't let them think you're interested, these books say. The Rules and all that stuff. We're people, and people just need to connect. When you play games like that, you're not connecting or being honest. That's the exact wrong basis for a relationship.
